The challenge of this project was to do something both contemporary and classic, both understated and flashy, both 19th century and 21st, if such a thing could be possible. We were also desirous of making the chandelier with Murano's premier company for these things, Barovier&Toso. To our delight they understood at once what we were trying to achieve.
The heritage of chandeliers on Murano is long and precious. We hope our idea escapes the baroque, but honors the history and the aesthetic in their making.
Simplicity requires discipline and avoiding all kinds of pitfalls. The challenge lies in paring down a concept, eliminating excess and focusing on enhancing what’s there. The simple lines combined with the sparkling effect from silver leaves in then glass gives the Chandelier it’s contemporary interpretation. It celebrates the effervescence of Venice without the nostalgia of old times, accenting both the modern as well as the outstanding skills of glassmaking on Murano.
