Walking in the Void

With the challenges of today’s world in mind Baldwin & Guggisberg take a wide-angle view of humanity’s place in the universe in a series of thought-provoking installations: a labyrinth of steel rods represents the 12 signs of the zodiac, with the Earth, Moon, asteroid belt, planets and comets floating between them; a slowly swinging pendulum marks the fourth dimension, Time; and a meteor shower symbolising the cataclysms that have periodically punctuated Earth’s history reminds us of humanity’s insignificance. Meanwhile, a timeline of objects tells the story of the human epoch since the last Ice Age.

Walking in the Void marks a shift in Baldwin & Guggisberg’s artistic practice from exploring the aesthetic possibilities of glass to a focus on more symbolic content and a commitment to the political and environmental challenges of the 21st century.
